World Famous Psychic Sylvia Browne Dies At 77

According to her website, famed psychic Sylvia Browne has passed away at 77. For years, many regarded Browne as a leader in the paranormal field. She was a regular on radio and television shows. She is also the author of several dozens of books that became best sellers.

Her death occurred in a northern California hospital on Wednesday at about 7:10 am. The cause of her death is still unknown. Browne always described herself as a believer in both God and reincarnation. According to her official biography, she conducted thousands of trance sessions and hypnotic regressions for people worldwide.

She told CNN’s Larry King Live, where she was a frequent guest, that she could predict the future and speak to the dead. “I don’t know how I do it,” she once said on King’s show. “I’ve done it all my life.” She was a regular on the Larry King Live show for 17 years and was on The Montel Williams Show every week.

She also made frequent appearances on Unsolved Mysteries and Loveline with Dr. Drew. These appearances and the fans she worked with directly helped boost her fan following. “I, like so many of you, lost a friend today,” Montel Williams posted on Browne’s website after her death was made public. “But, as has been for the last 20 years, she’ll always remain a part of me.”

Brown Discovered Her Psychic Gifts As A Child

Browne was born during the Great Depression in Kansas City, Missouri. According to her official biography, she first learned of her psychic gifts when she was only three. She told King on his show in 2008 that as a young child, it was terrifying when she learned of her ability to predict a person’s death. “The only thing, I think, that saved my sanity was that there are so many- well, we can track our lineage back to 300 years- of psychics,” she said.

She moved to California in 1964 at the age of 28. Browne decided to go from helping people privately to assisting people publicly. She wanted to “help thousands of people gain control of their lives, live more happily, understand the meaning of life and find God in their unique way,” according to her website. After founding The Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research in 1974, she began publishing books.

She ended up publishing over 50 books in her lifetime. Her biography states that about 22 landed on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Browne also worked with ministers. She trained them to help her spread her thinking through the “Society of Novus Spiritus.” She also created The Sylvia Browne Hypnosis Training Center to teach hypnosis.

Browne Wasn’t Always Right

Though Browne built up quite a large fan base, she also had her fair share of critics. Many stemmed from her 2004 appearance on The Montel Williams Show, where she spoke about Amanda Berry. Berry was missing then, and she told Berry’s mother, a guest on the show, that Amanda was dead. She said the next time she would see her daughter would be “in heaven, on the other side.”

Browne ended up being incredibly mistaken. Amanda, her young daughter, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus were all rescued. Authorities rescued them from a house in Cleveland where Ariel Castro held them captive for almost ten years. In a statement on her website, Browne said, “If ever there was a time to be grateful and relieved for being mistaken, this is that time. Only God is right all the time.”

She made it clear throughout her website that she did not fear death. She even made a Facebook post before her death, saying, “If you’re afraid to die, you won’t fully live.” Her last Facebook message was on October 27th of this year, where she posted, “My one prayer every morning that has carried me through my life is, ‘Hi God, it’s me again.’ How you pray doesn’t matter; it can be simply talking to God. Remember, God knows your heart and soul.”
