According to her website, famed psychic Sylvia Browne has passed away at the age of 77. For years, Browne was regarded as a leader in the paranormal field, she was a regular on radio and television shows, and she is also the author of several dozens books that went on to become best sellers. Her death took place in a hospital in northern California on Wednesday about 7:10am, but the cause of her death has not yet been made known.

Browne always described herself as a believer in both God and reincarnation, and she conducted thousands of trance sessions and hypnotic regressions for people around the world that needed her help, this according to her official biography. She told CNN’s Larry King Live, whose show she was a frequent guest on, that she had the ability to both predict the future and speak to the dead.

“I don’t know how I do it,” she once said on King’s show. “I’ve done it all my life.”

Along with being a regular guest on the Larry King Live show, for 17 years she was on The Montel Williams Show every week. She also made appearances frequently on Unsolved Mysteries, and Loveline with Dr. Drew. These appearances helped boost her fan following, along with the fans who she worked with directly.

“I, like so many of you, lost a friend today,” Montel Williams posted on Browne’s website after news of her death was made public. “But, as has been for the last 20 years, she’ll always remain a part of me.”

Browne was born during the Great Depression in Kansas City, Missouri and according to her official biography, she first learned of her psychic gifts when she was only 3 years old.

She told King on his show in 2008 that as a young child, it was very scary for her when she learned of her ability to predict a person’s death.

“The only thing, I think, that saved my sanity was that there are so many- well, we can track our lineage back to 300 years- of psychics,” she said.

She moved to California in 1964 at the age of 28 and decided to go from helping people privately to helping people publicly so that she could “help thousands of people gain control of their lives, live more happily, understand the meaning of life and to find God in their unique way,” states her website.

After founding The Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research in 1974, she began publishing books; she ended up publishing over 50 books in her lifetime and her biography states that about 22 of them landed on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Browne also worked with ministers, training them to help her spread her way of thinking through the organization “Society of Novus Spiritus”. She also created The Sylvia Browne Hypnosis Training Center so that she could teach hypnosis.

Though Browne built up quite a large fan base, she also had her fair share of critics. A lot of them stemmed from her 2004 appearance on The Montel Williams Show where she spoke about Amanda Berry (who was a missing girl at the time), telling Berry’s mother, who was also a guest on the show, that Amanda was dead and that the next time she would see her daughter would be “in heaven, on the other side.”

Browne ended up being incredibly mistaken; Berry, Berry’s young daughter, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus all ended up being rescued from a house in Cleveland where a man named Ariel Castro was holding them captive for almost 10 years. In a statement about this on her website, Browne said, “If ever there was a time to be grateful and relieved for being mistaken, this is that time. Only God is right all the time.”

Browne made it clear throughout her website that she did not fear death, and even made a post on her Facebook page on September 10th of this year that said, “If you are afraid to die, you will not fully live.” Her very last Facebook message was on October 27th of this year where she posted, “My one prayer every morning that has carried me through my life is, ‘Hi God, it’s me again. It doesn’t matter how you pray, it can be just simply talking to God. Remember, God knows your heart and soul.”
