Irvine, CA- Psychic Lisa Debbie Adams, 36, of Los Angeles pleaded guilty last week to theft. She convinced an Irvine woman that, while in her mother’s womb, she inherited a curse. The woman ended up paying her about $200,000 after all was said and done.
Adams pleaded guilty to grand theft with a sentencing enhancement for white-collar crime exceeding $100,000 and was able to cut a plea deal on Thursday. The court agreed that if she repays all of the money she stole from the victim, she will be able to remain free and out of jail.
Adams met the woman while in West Hollywood passing out her psychic services fliers. She noticed that the woman was holding a flier for a different psychic business and walked up to her, advising her that she was a psychic as well and that she was sensing a “darkness” surrounding her. She convinced the woman to make an appointment with her so that she could be “cleansed”.
Adams was able to pry financial information from the woman and found out that she had $100,000 in a retirement account. Armed with this information, Adams organized various meetings that took place either at her West Hollywood apartment or the woman’s place of employment between June 2008 and August 2009. She kept having her withdraw large amounts of money so that she could “cleanse” the curse and the “evil” that surrounds her; amounts as large as $96,000 one time.
At one point, the victim advised Adams that she no longer wished to participate in these meetings, and didn’t need her assistance anymore but was told by Adams that if they stopped what had already been started, then the curse would fall onto her family. This frightened the victim so much that she decided to proceed with the meetings and she kept withdrawing money from her retirement accounts to give to Adams. She was even convinced by her to purchase $30,000 worth of gold bars so that she could make a “shield” for protection and to open different credit card accounts, which were used to purchase over $100,000 in gifts to “ward off evil”. These high-end gifts included things such as accessories, jewelry, electronics, clothing, and furniture.
Adams was arrested in April 2010 and was charged with 36 different felony counts; 32 of them were felony counts of “second degree commercial burglary”, two of them were felony counts of “credit card fraud”, one of them was a felony count of “grand theft”, and the last one is a felony count of “dissuading a witness”, with added enhancements for “aggravated white collar crime over $100,000” and “property loss over $200,000”. The arrest occurred after the very frustrated and considerably less wealthy woman decided to report Adams’ actions to the Irvine Police in August of 2009. Her report incited an investigation into Adams, which then led to her arrest.
Adams made the wise decision to begin repaying the stolen money to the woman before the counts were even filed. She gave her back $50,000 at first, then $70,000 before the court hearing that she had on Thursday. She has promised to repay the remaining $128,000 by making payments of $30,000 every six months until it has all been paid back.
According to the prosecutors, Adams will more than likely be sentenced to community service and probation if all of the payments are made on time, but will be incarcerated for a considerably long time if she fails to do so.
This is one of the few instances where the fake Psychic gets caught and actually re-pay’s the victim! Hopefully this poor woman gets the help she needs and gets ALL of her life savings back! Hurray for justice! This is PROOF that curses aren’t real. The only curse is the fake Psychic stealing your money.
