You may remember Paul the Octopus, the football (soccer) World Cup score predictor. Well, if you do know of him, then you may also know that he passed away, with 2010 being the last match he predicted- accurately, might I add. Well, there is now a psychic pig to take Paul’s place. The pig will be predicting the winners of the European championships that are taking place in Poland and Ukraine.
According to the city government of Kiev, the score-predicting pig will be wheeled out on a daily business starting next month to predict the forecasts when the tournament begins.
“A unique oracle hog, a real Ukrainian pig and a psychic which knows the mysteries of football. Every day at 16:00 it will predict the result of the upcoming match,” says a statement that was released.
Paul the Octopus had his moment of fame in 2010 when he accurately predicted the FIFA World Cup via his feeding behavior. He predicted the winner in each of Germany’s seven matches. The way he made his predictions via food was that he would be presented with two different boxes, both containing a mussel inside for him to eat but each box having a different teams’ flag on the top. Paul would then choose which one he wanted to eat first and that is the team that would end up winning.
Aside from predicting Germany’s victories, Paul also accurately predicted the Spain vs. Netherlands World Cup match in South Africa, all while inside his tank at Oberhausen, Germany.
By bringing in a psychic pig, Kiev officials stated that they were hoping to bring the same excitement to the Ukrainian people that Paul brought. They will be taking him to the fan zone before matches so that he can work his magic.
It appears that thanks to Paul’s amazing accuracy, psychic animals have become the new trend.
Even hockey is no stranger to score-predicting creatures. Magdalena is a very rare two-headed tortoise who started her career in this field by predicting the winner in the world championships in Slovakia last year.
Then there is Heidi, a cross-eyed opossum discovered by Germans. She however was known not for predicting sport winners, but by predicting the American Oscar award winners this year. Unfortunately, Heidi passed away last September.
The pig, who is yet to be named, is lucky that he has been successful so far in his predictions, since this has kept him from getting made into a meal, considering how pork is a very popular food in his hometown!
