Psychic Cons Victim Into Giving Her $650,000 For Cleansing

Manhattan, New York- 39-year-old Janet Miller pleaded guilty to theft for falsely claiming “spiritual powers.” She swindled over $650,000 from a woman looking for spiritual help. As a result, Miller, from Manhattan, was charged with third-degree grand larceny. Now that she pleaded guilty, she’ll receive her sentencing on June 12th.

Court records indicate Miller met her victim, a self-employed business owner, on 41st St in Manhattan in July 2011. During the initial meeting, she told her client that she had spiritual powers and could see that the woman was being taken advantage of. She told her people were stealing money from her, lying to her, and cheating on her. She convinced the woman that she could help her fix all these issues.

In addition, Miller even told the victim that she had visions of her deceased grandmother crying. The fake psychic began the scam by telling the woman she needed $900 from her. This money would supposedly be used to buy the materials necessary for making a shield that would “block the devil.” The woman agreed to give her $400. She also received “holy” water, salt, crystals, and oils from Miller.

The Scamming Psychic Established A Fake Relationship

After this, she and Miller started communicating almost every day. The unsuspecting victim continued giving Miller money to purchase things she needed to keep the devil away and protect her. That went on from July 2011 to August 2012. She even gave Miller any jewelry she owned, including two Rolex watches.

While Miller and the victim spoke, Miller became the woman’s close friend and confidante. Moreover, she convinced the victim she could help her father when he was diagnosed with cancer. However, the final trick that Miller pulled on the woman was the worst of them all. She insisted that the victim’s money was dirty and cursed and persuaded her that she could clean it for her.

Miller had the woman take over $600,000 from her bank account and give it to her in cash. She told her she would conduct several cleansing procedures on the money on a mountain. Miller was supposed to return the money within weeks but only returned a small portion.
