Hingham, MA: The property on Whiting Street that used to belong to two psychics arrested for scamming is now up for rent. The sign reading ‘Crystal’s Spiritual Reader’ and everything inside the building are gone, and the building is available for lease.
In April, Teresa Nicholas and her accomplice Tiffany Crystal Smith were arrested for scamming a 69-year-old woman from Pembroke, MA. They scammed the woman out of more than $7,000 during a psychic reading in this building.
Since the arrest, more victims have told the police that these two women have also scammed them. According to the police, Smith (who goes by the psychic name “Sofie”) used scare tactics to con the victim.
She told the woman that her daughter had a curse on her. She claimed the curse would cause the daughter to commit suicide if the client didn’t pay Smith $16,000. The report states that while performing the client’s reading, Smith dropped a bag and red liquid spilled out of it.
She told the woman that this represented her daughter’s blood. She tried to convince the woman to pay her to remove the curse. At one point, she even asked the woman, “Isn’t your daughter worth more than $16,000?” hoping this would persuade the victim to pay her.
Smith conned the woman out of an antique opal ring valued at $500 and two checks that totaled $7,385. According to police, Smith told the victim that she needed to pay the additional $8,115. She told them told sell personal items, borrow money, or charge it onto a credit card.
Nicholas has been charged with two counts of theft over $250 and conspiracy, one count of theft over $250 by false pretenses, and one count of theft over $250 from a person over 65 and conspiracy.
