Police arrested a self-proclaimed psychic from Wantagh, New York, on June 30th for allegedly scamming an unsuspecting woman. They state she lied to the woman about being cursed. Because of this lie, she was able to steal almost $5,000 from the victim, according to the Nassau County police.
The fraudulent psychic is a 43-year-old woman named Lisa King. She resides in the back section of her psychic shop in Wantagh on Railroad Avenue. The arrest occurred after detectives learned she had given a 49-year-old woman several fake psychic readings. When the victim went to the psychic shop, Lisa’s Psychic Shop, King would lie to her about being “cursed.” She would then tell her that she needed to pay large sums to remove the curse.
Altogether, the woman ended up giving King about $4,900. According to detectives, King told the victim she had to bury her money. She also told her she couldn’t talk to anyone or let anyone know what was happening. Otherwise, the cleansing would fail, and the curse would return in full force to affect her loved ones. Unfortunately, the police did not recover the money when they arrested her that day.
King Gets Her Day In Court
New York state considers fortune-telling a misdemeanor. They charged King the following three charges:
- One third-degree grand larceny charge
- One fourth-degree grand larceny charge
- The misdemeanor fortune-telling charge
Following her arraignment, the judge let King go without having to post bail. The area was full of bystanders, but she pushed her way out of the crowd. She kept her face hidden from cameras and refused to speak with reporters on her way out. Reporters tried calling her at the phone number listed for her psychic shop, hoping to speak with her but were unsuccessful.
The media also attempted to talk to her lawyer, David Mirsky, but he was also unavailable for comment. However, he told News12 Long Island that King’s business is purely “for entertainment purposes only.” He stated that the crimes mounted against his client were only alleged crimes but didn’t mention them in detail.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; there’s no such thing as curses. Don’t be fooled by these scammers.

There is bad in every profession, unfortunately. How many police we hear that have been punished for being on the “take” when they are meant to be just and protecting the public. We also hear about inappropriate lawyers, doctors, nurses, caretakers, etc. The list can go on and on.
Fortune Telling is a misdemeanor in New York? Who says so? Where did you hear that? If so then what about all these psychic shops that we have have around in New York on the streets….How are they existing if it is a misdemeanor?
Malta it could be illegal but not enforced. The fact that Lisa King was arrested on a “fortune telling” charge tells me its illegal in NYC.
