Psychic Shop In Salem, Massachusetts Accused Of Lying To Customers

Salem, MA.- A psychic business in Salem called Fatima’s Psychic Studio is accused of fraud. They’re tricking customers into giving them money to remove curses and evil from their lives. Fatima’s Psychic Studio has had its chance of renewing its business license denied for allegedly charging a man over $16,000 to protect him from an evil curse he had on him, among other complaints.

Because the Salem Licensing Board learned of an active police investigation into the studio, they decided not to renew their license at a meeting at the City Hall Annex. However, Fatima chose to continue running the business without a license.

On October 10th, around 5:00 pm, they were issued a cease and desist order for doing so. Detective Sergeant James A. Paige states that their license expired in March 2012. According to him, the psychic studio has had many complaints. They are listed below:

July 18, 2013: A Farmington, NH. A woman filed a report against the business to Sgt. Conrad Prosniewski. She stated that one of Fatima’s psychics wanted her to pay $100 to remove a curse.

September 16, 2013: An officer named Dennis Luti took a complaint from a woman from Pepperell, MA. She stated that a psychic at Fatima’s advised her she was “full of evil” and would need to pay $500 to get rid of it.

October 1, 2013: Detective Dennis Gaudet from Salem led an investigation against the business after receiving a call from a Henrietta, NY, man.

He told them that an employee at the psychic shop convinced him he needed to be protected by a shield placed over him. Additionally, they told him he needed “channel angels.” They convinced him, and he ended up paying over $16,000 to them over a few weeks.

The Complaints Were All Similar

October 3, 2013: Last but not least, another Fatima customer called the police stating that a psychic asked him for $50.00 to remove a curse from him.

October 7, 2013: Detective Brian St. Pierre from Salem was in charge of an investigation concerning a complaint from a different customer.

Fatima’s psychics told this customer that he needed to pay $500 to have a curse removed from him. He told investigators that he declined the offer, but they kept harassing him. They called him several days later, still trying to convince him to pay the price and have the curse removed. The City of Salem Code of Ordinances defines fortunetelling as: “the telling of fortunes, forecasting of futures, or reading the past.”

Because removing curses or evil spirits from people is not included in the ordinance it is, therefore, illegal. The city had a meeting about whether or not it should renew Fatima’s Psychic Studio’s business license on Tuesday night. During the hearing, studio owner Harry Mitchell appeared before the board. He told them he had already resolved things with the customer, who paid them over $16,000.

He stated he was going to return the money to the victim. According to Paige, the investigation into customer reports and complaints about psychics insisting on “removing evil” is ongoing. October 28, 2013, is the next board meeting regarding the psychic shop. They will be discussing the charges brought up against the psychic business. Since this article came out, there has been an update on the fate of Fatima’s Psychic Studio.
