Undercover Sting Operation Successful In Busting Scamming Psychic

Oklahoma City, OK. – Though her clients know her as ‘Mrs. Maple’, the State knows this alleged serial offender as Sonia Marks. Authorities have busted Marks before; see Fraudulent Psychic Sonia Marks Arrested After Being On The Run for 14 Years. “We believe there’s a string of victims, a lot we haven’t heard from,” said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight.

Marks was arrested a few years ago in Oklahoma City due to warrants from Ohio. Detectives accused her of conning clients out of almost a million dollars and found her guilty. The judge then ordered her to pay restitution of $187,700. She’s been using her “special skills” to steal money from unknowing victims at her psychic shop for years. Research shows that fortune telling for profit is against Oklahoma state law and is considered a misdemeanor.

The statute partially reads, ‘It shall be unlawful for any person, or persons, pretending or professing to tell fortune to make any charges, or to receive any gift of donation.’ According to Oklahoma City Police, Marks was back at it with her old tricks that authorities prohibited her from practicing. “The OKCPD vice unit began an investigation. They actually were sending some of their own officers in there,” said Knight.

The police department sent undercover agents to meet with ‘Mrs. Maple’ for several weeks. They learned that she would charge them fees ranging from $60 to $125 and told them different things, such as that they ‘needed their aura cleansed,’ ‘would meet a wonderful person soon,’ and ‘would be having twins.’ According to the agents, the fortunes the psychic told them depended on future payments they must agree to make before knowing the prediction.
