Manhattan, New York- A 39-year-old woman named Janet Miller has plead guilty to charges of theft for claiming to have “spiritual powers” and swindling over $650,000 from another woman in search of spiritual help.

Miller, who is from Manhattan, was charged with third degree grand larceny and now that she has plead guilty she will receive her sentencing on June 12th.

The court records indicate that Miller initially met the victim, a self-employed business owner, on East 41st St in Manhattan at an apartment in July of 2011. During this initial meeting, Miller told the woman that she had spiritual powers and that she could see that people were stealing money from her, lying, and cheating her and convinced her that she had the ability to help her. She even told the woman that she was having visions of her (the victims’) deceased grandmother crying.

Miller began by telling the woman that she needed $900 from her so that she could buy the materials necessary for making a shield that will be used to block the devil. The woman agreed to give her $400. The woman also received “holy” water, salt, crystals, and oils from Miller. After this, the woman and Miller started communicating almost every day.

The unsuspecting victim continued giving Miller money so that she can purchase things that were needed in order to keep the devil away and protect her, all between July 2011 and August 2012. She even handed over the jewelry she owned, including two Rolex watches, to Miller.

Throughout the time that Miller and the victim were speaking, Miller became the woman’s close friend and confidante. She even convinced the woman that she could help her father when he was diagnosed with cancer.

The final trick that Miller pulled on the woman was the worst of them all; Miller insisted that the victim’s money was dirty and cursed and persuaded her that she could clean it for her. She had the woman take out over $600,000 from her bank account and give it to her in cash. She told her that she was going to conduct several cleansing procedures on the money on a mountain. The woman was supposed to receive her money back within weeks but Miller only gave her back a small portion of it.
